The Death of the Traditional Network Perimeter

In the modern remote-first, multi-cloud era, having an internal network firewall is not enough. Zero Trust operates on one core principle: **Never Trust, Always Verify**.

Key Tenets of Cloud Zero Trust

  • **Identity Is the New Perimeter:** Enforce hardware MFA (WebAuthn/FIDO2) for all console access and developer SSH.
  • **Short-Lived Ephemeral Credentials:** Eliminate permanent AWS access keys. Use AWS IAM Roles Anywhere, OIDC federation with GitHub Actions, and Vault secrets.
  • **Micro-Segmentation:** Database clusters must reject connections from any IP other than the private application subnet security group.
  • **Continuous Audit Logging:** Forward CloudTrail, VPC Flow Logs, and Kubernetes audit logs to an encrypted immutable storage sink with real-time alerting.
